Captain America: Civil War $72 Million Second Weekend Box Office, for May 13-15, 2016, puts the mega successful film at a solid $295 Million Domestic, $645 Million International and a mammoth $940 Million Global Cume. The third installment in the Captain America series has already zoomed past the global total of Captain America: The First Avenger ($370 Million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($714 Million). Captain America: Civil War is expected to pass the $1 Billion mark later on this week. How high will it go? We will have to wait and see. But it seems safe to say that it will certainly go high enough.
The Jungle Book (2016 BV) continues it’s phenomenal run with $17 Million Domestic bringing it’s global haul to $828 Million. Money Monster, from director Jodie Foster, grabbed $15 Million. The Darkness, with Radha Mitchell and Jennifer Morrison scared up $5 Million and Mother’s Day rounds out the top five films at the box office with $3 Million.
Next weekend May 20-22, 2016 will see the arrival of The Angry Birds Movie (Sony/Columbia) and The Nice Guys (Warner Bros.) at the multiplexes. The Nice Guys is directed by Shane Black who directed Iron Man 3 (2013) and stars the brilliant Russell Crowe who won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his masterful performance in Gladiator (2000), Ryan Gosling who starred in the exciting Drive (2011) and the exquisite Kim Basinger.
Kim Basinger, who won an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in the wonderful film L.A. Confidential (1997), will also be seen in Fifty Shades Darker (2017) which marks the second film in the Fifty Shades Series. The first installment Fifty Shades of Grey starring Dakota Johnson was a huge success with fans everywhere and earned $571 Million at the global box office. Fifty Shades Darker (2017) is schedule to hit theaters on February 10, 2017. The summer box office is unfurling quite nicely.
