The summer of 2014 witnessed an astonishing event as Li Bingbing and Nicola Peltz break China Box Office Record. As the headline actresses in Michael Bay’s fourth installment of the Transformers series, ominously titled Transformers: Age of Extinction, Li Bingbing and Nicola Peltz brought their exceptional talents to the film and in so doing made the blockbuster the NUMBER ONE grossing film of all time in China. The current box office return for Transformers: Age of Extinction in China stands at $301 Million.
Li Bingbing is of course an icon of Chinese Film. She is one of the hardest working actresses who continuously delivers great performances. Her range in film styles are diverse and complex. She demonstrates her athletic prowess in the epic martial arts film The Forbidden Kingdom, with Jet Li and Jackie Chan and in the beautiful film Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame. And she gives us her lighter, comedic and dramatic styles in the lovely romantic film, I Do.
Nicola Peltz is a relative new comer to the silver screen but quickly showed us that she can deliver the goods. She showed great dynamism in her portrayal of Katara in the adventure film The Last Airbender. And she was quite acclaimed as Bradley Martin in the TV Series Bates Motel. Now in Transformers: Age of Extinction we see her energy and her strong on screen presence.
Transformers: Age of Extinction shows us the levels to which art and technology can rise. This alone is worth the time to see this film. It is a lesson to young filmmakers and established filmmakers struggling to merge art and technology. Those who learn from this film will be the great action/adventure filmmakers of the future.
