Ruth Slenczynska is a beautiful and talented pianist known for her early genius, her brilliant pianism, and for being one of the great child prodigies of all time. Ruth Slenczynska made her debut at age six in Berlin, and she made her debut with a full orchestra at age seven, in Paris. She would go on to study with some of the greatest pianists of all time, including Sergei Rachmaninoff, Josef Hofmann, Alfred Cortot, and Artur Schnabel. Ruth Slenczynska became an Artist-in-Residence at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1964, and remained in that full time position until 1987.
Ruth Slenczynska wrote a memoir in 1957, Forbidden Childhood, which deals with life as a child prodigy. She has also written a brilliant and essential book on piano technique entitled Music at Your Fingertips: Aspects of Pianoforte Technique.
