Sarah Chang is a beautiful and talented violinist known for her amazing musical gift, her brilliance at a very early age, and for being one of the great modern child prodigies. Sarah Chang was accepted into the Juilliard School in 1986, when she was 5 years old, by performing Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor. She would later return to Juilliard for university, studying with the great teacher Dorothy DeLay. When she was 8 years old, Sarah Chang would perform with both the New York Philharmonic conducted by Zubin Mehta, and the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Muti. She would go on to play with many of the world’s great orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen.
Sarah Chang made her first album at age 10, entitled Debut, which became an instant classical best-seller. Her many other acclaimed recordings include Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1, the Brahms Violin Concerto, and other great Violin Concertos, notably by Dmitri Shostakovich, Karl Goldmark, and Richard Strauss. Sarah Chang has also made several DVDs, including Spanish Night in 2003 performing Sarasate’s Carmen Fantasie and other pieces with the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Plácido Domingo, and another in 1995 performing Niccolò Paganini’s Violin Concerto with the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Zubin Mehta.
